THE SCIENCE
DUANNE WHITE
University of Canberra Institute of Applied Ecologygy
Duanne studies how past climate changes have affected the Antarctic ice sheet, landscape, and the life that inhabits it. This t-shirt reflects the challenges and adventure of fieldwork on the icy continent, as Duanne searches for and dates rocks called ‘erratics’ left behind as the ice thins and exposes new land. Often the best sample sites are up high on mountains, as they allow us to determine the scale and timing of past thinning events, and in turn shed light on the likely scale of ice loss and sea level rise into the future. Duanne wishes penguins were really this helpful in his quest for the perfect erratic!

THE ART
RYAN VENNER
University of Canberra Faculty of Health
This design was inspired by the true story of a team of scientists searching Antarctica for a particularly elusive egg-shaped rock that would provide valuable data about the degradation of the environment around it. The egg is used as a symbol of new beginnings amongst a melting, crumbling Antarctic landscape, where penguins and scientists team up to search for the rock and put an end to the escalating madness.
