THE SCIENCE HAYLEY TESDALE University of Canberra #rebuildyourbrain represents the power of neuroplasticity. Hayley’s research looks at proprioception, which is the sense of one’s body position in space, to see how it can be improved by rebuilding the parts of the brain that deteriorate as we age. This can then help to improve balance and prevent life-altering falls. When you re-build your plastic brain, anything is possible..
THE ART DAMIEN VEAL Damien Veal Damien was drawn to Hayley’s inspirational research as he has had close family members affected by degenerative brain diseaes, including Parkinson’s. The #rebuildyourbrain design presents a symbolic representation of a brain re-building itself, drawing strength to create new connections in spite of its deterioration. A figure stands unassisted on the edge of this massive form. She is delighted by the activity she witnesses in front of her and raises her arms in joy and awe. Above her a few lights have brightened in the work zone as the neural connections have re-established and the brain powers-up once again.
