Hi! My name is Dipon (He/Him) and I am currently a PhD candidate at the University of Tasmania, researching the growth of nasty microbes in a cheese called paneer. I grew up in India and moved to Hobart, lutruwita/Tasmania in 2018. When I don't have my PhD hat on, I am organizing and delivering SciComm events in schools and for the public. Otherwise, I enjoy soccer, hiking, rock-climbing, books and a good beer.

🐢 TURTLE CONSERVATION
-
Hi I am Carla (She/Her), I study freshwater turtle conservation and explore their potential as a resource for food security (freshwater turtles are rich in iron) in Indigenous and remote communities. However, my research projects are not limited to any particular group. I am also interested in the broader themes of STEM education and pathways, sustainable development, remote communities’ engagement and science communication.

🌱FUNGI AND PLANTS
-
Hi I am James (He/Him), my murals can be found throughout Australia in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, as well as internationally in India, America, South Africa and Indonesia. I look to the natural environment and near surroundings for inspiration in my work. I enjoy the public reach of murals, encouraging the audience to question concepts such as environmental awareness and conservation, drawing focus to nature in an urban environment or on a man-made structure.

ADAM
-
Hi I am Adam (He/Him), I am an ecologist that explores interactions that happen in the soil between fungi and plants. I am particularly interested in arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, their diversity, and how they can affect plant growth, nutrient uptake, and their ability to defend themselves against attack from insects. I am also interested in how these interactions are affected by agricultural management and climate change.
SANDRA
🧠 MEMORY

Hi I am Sandra (She/Her)! After being the owner of a botanical art gallery and retail store, I finally decided it was well and truly time to nurture my lifetime passion and focus on children’s picture books. RACHEL
💗 HEART & FIBRE
-
My name is Rachel (She/Her). I am an artist / illustrator, who uses a combination of traditional and digital techniques to create pictures. While I like to explore different mediums, styles and effects, I always return to my first love; pencil drawing (thus my moniker: pencil pusher). My work is published in books and magazines, my larger works on paper have been exhibited in Canberra, and I produce work on commission.
HAMDI
-
Hi my name is Hamdi (She/Her), I am a Postdoctoral researcher at Monash University. My research focuses on understanding the effect of dietary fibre intake on heart disease. During my PhD, I found that fibre during pregnancy shapes offspring's gut microbes and modulates their heart at the cellular level, protecting against heart disease. Our lab has conducted the first clinical trial using an enriched high-fibre supplement to treat essential hypertension. The outcomes of these studies are significant as I have demonstrated the efficacy and feasibility of fibre to prevent and treat heart disease.

My work has revealed the radio glow of our own Milky Way galaxy, as well as hundreds of thousands of distant galaxies, via the GaLactic and Extragalactic All-sky Murchison Widefield Array (GLEAM) survey. Unlike previous work, it is the first "radio color" survey, observed across such a wide range of frequencies that the unique spectrum of every object can be used to understand its underlying physics. I brought it to the world an Android VR app, an online viewer, have delivered a popular TED talk and was named a WA Tall Poppies Scientist of the Year (2017), an ABC Top 5 Scientist (2018) and a Superstar of STEM (2019).
